AGO Friday Nights: Celebrating Keith Haring: Art is for Everybody

Friday, November 17, 6 - 9 PM
Walker Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

Reverberating with energy, activism and love, the art of Keith Haring is synonymous with New York in the 1980s. In partnership with Toronto collective Yohomo, the AGO celebrates the arrival of Keith Haring: Art Is for Everybody  with a one-night-only all ages opening party, headlined by legendary New York DJ Lina Bradford.

Lina Bradford is a New York City born and raised  DJ, dancer and actress.  Following the city’s club culture since the 1990s when she was part of the queer, underground and fashionable New York Club Kids scene to today when she hosts other nightlife luminaries in the interview webseries In the Dollhouse With Lina, DJ Lina, or Girlina as she was known, has seen it all. Encouraged to DJ by the likes of Frankie Knuckles and Larry Levan of the famous Paradise Garage, frequented by Keith Haring himself, she is also a trans right advocate as well as ambassador for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, an organization supporting LGBTQ youth. A winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Glammy’s, featured in the film Wigstock, this original multi-hyphenate was, and continues to be, an integral part of the New York City’s nightlife.

Yohomo was founded in 2016 by writer, DJ and Youtube personality Philip Villeneuve and creative director, and DJ Armand Digdoyo.  Yohomo arose from an urgent need to connect the diversity and creativity of Toronto’s 2SLGBTQ+ communities. They shine a spotlight on parties, events, plays, screenings, meetups and marches through event listings, exclusive blog content, and they'remonthly Yohomo Show on ISO Radio. They are dedicated to creating an inclusive, uplifting, online and IRL orbit that supports and nurtures 2SLGBTQ+ artists, performers, promoters, community organizers and curators from all over Toronto. They also love bringing folks from all walks of life togayther through their own parties at spaces across the city. They live and breathe queer Toronto.
