November 28, 2013, 2pm
Signy Eaton Gallery, Art Gallery of Ontario

Charlie Keil, Director of the Cinema Studies Institute at the University of Toronto, will provide insight into the connections between Edward Steichen's photography and the Hollywood star system during the first decades of the studio era.  Steichen's photos are a key instrument in a developing culture of celebrity that marks the early twentieth century.

Charlie Keil is Director of the Cinema Studies Institute and Associate Professor of History at the University of Toronto. He has published extensively on American cinema of the silent and early sound periods. His current research project is an investigation of the origins of Hollywood.
