Join Legendary cartoonist Seth in conversation with Mark Medley for the launch of Clyde Fans, a masterful work about the decline of a family run business and the subsequent erosion of one’s sanity. Seth’s intimate storytelling and gorgeous art allow urban landscapes and detailed period objects to tell their own stories as two brothers, Abe and Simon Matchcard, struggle to understand one another in the ruins of their family business. Clyde Fans is a gorgeous time capsule of the mid-century capitalist dream and the tragedy of two men who don’t know themselves. 

The evening will begin with a live performance of Clyde Fans by William Webster as Abe Matchcard, directed by Soulpepper alum Derek Boyes.

Seth is the cartoonist behind the comic book series Palookaville, and his comics have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, Best American Comics, and McSweeneys Quarterly. His illustrations have appeared in numerous publications including the cover of the New Yorker, the Walrus, and Canadian Notes & Queries. Seth was the subject of a solo exhibition at the AGO, which showcased the first public display of his model city Dominion. His work is included in the AGO’s Collection.  He is the subject of a National Film Board documentary entitled Seth's Dominion. Seth lives in Guelph, Ontario, with his wife Tania and their two cats in an old house he has named "Inkwell's End".

Mark Medley is Deputy Editor of the Globe and Mail's Opinion section. He previously served as the Globe’s books editor, and, prior to joining the paper in 2014, he spent more than seven years at the National Post, where he served as an arts reporter and books editor. His work has appeared in publications across Canada.
