Turner's Printed Legacy

June 27 - September 26, 2004

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

J.M.W. Turner is remembered as Britain's most celebrated landscape painter. In his own day his watercolours and oil paintings were much admired and his fame was spread to wide audiences through engraved reproductions of his works. This exhibition explores the importance of the prints Turner made for his "Liber Studiorum" project, and the role played by popular "translations" of his landscapes by other printmakers.
