Woodland School: Recent Acquisitions

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

As part of the AGO's commitment to Aboriginal art, this installation focuses on recent acquisitions of work by Norval Morrisseau and other artists who created a unique visual language in the late 1960s and 1970s. Although rooted in traditional Nishinaabe (Ojibwe) imagery, the works are strikingly modern, clearly drawing on the vibrant design of Pop graphics of the period. The Woodland School style quickly became identified with a re-invigorated First Nations political consciousness of the time.
