Mix it Up!

We’ll start with fundamental painting, sculpture and drawing techniques and then "mix it up" in new and unexpected ways. Inspired by artworks in the galleries that use unconventional materials and mediums, you'll take your art making into bold new creative spaces. Think painting without a brush, sculpting without clay, and drawing without pencils, you'll get creative with the ways you create!

Collage and Mixed Media: Inspired by Pacita Abad

In this course on collage inspired by Pacita Abad, students will immerse themselves in the vibrant and eclectic world of mixed media art, drawing inspiration from Abad’s innovative techniques and colourful compositions. Known for her use of bold patterns, textures, and vibrant colours, Abad's work serves as a rich source of creativity for exploring collage as a dynamic art form.

Textile Explorations

Dive into the rich and versatile world of textiles in this captivating introductory course. Discover the intricate interplay of color, pattern, and texture as you design and construct textile artworks that reflect your personal style and vision.

Inspired by the AGO collection, we will explore a variety of contemporary surface design and textile techniques.  We’ll work with fabric and Japanese paper to create small artworks that are, respectively: stitched; printed; dyed; and sewn into soft sculpture.

Introduction to Textiles - Intensive

Inspired by the AGO collection, we will explore a variety of contemporary surface design and textile techniques. We’ll work with fabric and Japanese paper to create small artworks that are, respectively: stitched; printed; dyed; and sewn into soft sculpture. Meet in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School.

Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media

With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists stretch the boundaries of their creativity while learning a variety of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques. Experiment with materials such as acrylic and watercolour paint, chalk, charcoal and paper collage. This is a great class for introducing students to a range of artmaking materials and techniques, and also for those looking to take their work to the next level by combining these fundamental art mediums in new and exciting ways.
