Painting Explorations: Still Life

In this course, students will draw from direct observation of paintings and objects in the AGO collections and galleries to explore the visual depiction of form. Students will work from a weekly series of scenes and sets, and in addition to skill development, contemporary and historical approaches to still life representation will be discussed. Through hands-on experimentation and critical analysis of renowned artworks, participants will develop a deeper understanding of colour theory, composition, and the power of visual exploration.

Watercolour Explorations: Winter Colours

Discover the unique properties of watercolour and practice a variety of application techniques with hands-on experimentation through quick exercises and the development of more resolved pieces. A visit to the galleries will also reveal a broad range of works in our collection that will inspire your unique fall landscape approach.

Painting Together: Watercolour in the Park (with Adult)

Join us for our 1 day family workshops where children with an adult caregiver will explore artists and artworks in the AGO collection and get inspired to create art together. This summer, we’re learning watercolour painting techniques in the studio and heading outside to paint in the AGO' s beautiful Grange Park.

This class is for 1 child and 1 adult.

All materials are included. Meet in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School.

This course runs rain or shine. Should inclement weather occur, the class will visit the gallery for additional inspiration.

Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media

With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists stretch the boundaries of their creativity while learning a variety of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques. Experiment with materials such as acrylic and watercolour paint, chalk, charcoal and paper collage. This is a great class for introducing students to a range of artmaking materials and techniques, and also for those looking to take their work to the next level by combining these fundamental art mediums in new and exciting ways.
