In this course, students will draw from direct observation of paintings and objects in the AGO collections and galleries to explore the visual depiction of form. Students will work from a weekly series of scenes and sets, and in addition to skill development, contemporary and historical approaches to still life representation will be discussed. Through hands-on experimentation and critical analysis of renowned artworks, participants will develop a deeper understanding of colour theory, composition, and the power of visual exploration.

Painting Explorations: Modernism delves into the dynamic and diverse landscape of contemporary artistic expression through paint. This course invites students to engage with the techniques, concepts, and philosophies that define modern art movements. From abstract expressionism to minimalism, students will explore how artists have pushed the boundaries of tradition, challenging conventional aesthetics and narrative forms.

For the child who loves to paint! With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists will experiment with both acrylic and watercolour paint while learning traditional and non-traditional painting techniques and skills. Learn painting fundamentals such as composition and perspective while painting landscapes, portraits, abstract creations and more. Get ready to express yourself through the art of painting. Grab a brush, let’s paint!

This season we'll gain inspiration from the abstract artworks of Jinny Yu, and create geometric abstract paintings together in the studio

This summer, we’re learning watercolour painting techniques in the studio and heading outside to paint in the AGO' s beautiful Grange Park.

This class is for 1 child and 1 adult.

This course runs rain or shine. Should inclement weather occur, the class will visit the gallery for additional inspiration.

Experiment with materials such as acrylic and watercolour paint, chalk, charcoal and paper collage. This is a great class for introducing students to a range of artmaking materials and techniques, and also for those looking to take their work to the next level by combining these fundamental art mediums in new and exciting ways.
