Painting Together: Exploring the Group of Seven (+ Adult) 1 Day Workshop

Join us for our 1 day family workshops where children with an adult caregiver will explore artists and artworks in our collection and get inspired to create back in the studio. This season we're exploring artworks by the Group of Seven and painting spring landscapes together in the studio.

This class is for 1 child and 1 adult.

Painting Explorations: Watercolour (8-10)

No Class Easter Weekend April 9 and Victoria Day Weekend May 21

With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists will learn a variety of traditional and non-traditional watercolor painting techniques and skills. Students will develop an awareness of colour, shape, texture and form while learning to express themselves through the art of watercolour painting.

Drawing, Painting & Mixed Media

With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists stretch the boundaries of their creativity while learning a variety of drawing, painting and mixed media techniques. Experiment with materials such as acrylic and watercolour paint, chalk, charcoal and paper collage. This is a great class for introducing students to a range of artmaking materials and techniques, and also for those looking to take their work to the next level by combining these fundamental art mediums in new and exciting ways.

Paint It!

For the child who loves to paint! With the AGO's collection as inspiration, young artists will experiment with both acrylic and watercolour paint while learning traditional and non-traditional painting techniques and skills. Learn painting fundamentals such as composition and perspective while painting landscapes, portraits, abstract creations and more. Get ready to express yourself through the art of painting. Grab a brush, let’s paint!

ONLINE INTRODUCTION TO PAINTING

This online course introduces students to a range of painting techniques, including different application methods to develop an awareness of line, volume, form and colour.  Students will complete a variety of projects using acrylic paint in this foundation-level course, taught live by an AGO Artist Instructor, that draws upon the AGO’s painting collections as inspiration.

Online Introduction to Painting

Painting Explorations: Portraits

This 4 week course will introduce students to various portrait painting techniques as well as a variety of painting styles, and subject matter. Students will develop an awareness of colour, shape, texture and form to create compositions with depth, using the mediums of acrylic paint and watercolour. Learn fundamental painting techniques and get inspired by portraits in the AGO Collection while capturing your unique style on canvas.

Painting Explorations: Abstract Art ONLINE

This online course draws inspiration from abstract art in the AGO Collection. Practice the methods used in abstract painting, focusing on shape, form, color and line, to learn and develop your new painting style. 

Students to supply their own materials. Alternative and/or additional materials may be discussed on class 1 with instructor. To get the most from this course, we suggest you take Introduction to Painting first.
