Life Drawing Explorations: Inspired by Tissot, Women and Time
Life Drawing is a course focused on the study and rendering of the human form. Inspired by the exhibition, Tissot, Women and Time, and the many ways that the French artist James Tissot represented modern women and envisioned their relationship to time during the last decades of the nineteenth century, this course will put a contemporary lens on representational drawing.
Students will work directly from live models to develop their observational and drawing skills, learning to capture the anatomy, movement, and expressions of the body. The course will explore various techniques and mediums, including charcoal, pencil, and ink, while emphasizing proportion, gesture, and contour. Through observation, practice and guided critiques, students will gain confidence in depicting the figure with fluidity, as well as experiment with personal styles.
This drawing course is suitable for individuals with some drawing experience. To get the most out of this course, we recommend taking Introduction to Life Drawing first.
Meet in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School.
