Online Life Drawing
Whether you are looking to be a painter, sculpture, fashion designer, movie director or another creative, life drawing offers the essential skills to get you there. Life drawing is the drawing of the human form in its various shapes and postures, offering foundational skills in observation and empathy. This introductory drawing course is designed and taught for all levels of art experience and capabilities. You can work at their own pace. We will focus on the fundamentals and foundations of the practice and help you develop the building blocks of drawing.
Every season, we offer projects inspired by artworks in the AGO Collection, including new acquisitions as well as special exhibitions where indicated. Instructors also develop personalized approaches to their teaching techniques focused on student interests and needs. Students are encouraged to discuss their learning goals with their instructor.

Participants must be 18 or older.
WEEKLY OUTLINE
Week 1: Study of gestural drawing, focusing on the structural movement of the body. Discussion and demonstration on main axis and axis points.
Week 2: Modeling with directional lines. The relationship between directional lines and contour lines will be explored.
Week 3: Chiaroscuro/Shape reading.
Week 4: Proportions of the body and features.
Week 5: Modeling the head in colour.
STUDENT MATERIALS LIST
- 18 x 24 inch Newsprint or Cartridge paper pad 40 sheets (or white paper any size)
- Conte sticks: Black HB, B, 2B, and white 2B (or NuPastel white)
- Chalk Pastel set, 12 or more colours. (Alternative: NuPastel, or soft pastel)
- Eraser: white plastic
- Optional: Conte Sanguine (red brown), conte Bistre (dark brown), charcoal pencils and chalk pencils, sharpener for the pencils, large kneadable eraser, bulldog clips and a drawing board to fit the paper.
These are the recommended materials for this course. All sizes are approximate. On your first day of class, your instructor may recommend additional optional materials. Our Instructors will do their best to accommodate alternative materials whenever possible.
