Sculpture Explorations: Assemblage
What is material culture? When does an object become art? Reflecting on art historical periods such as Surrealism, Arte Povera, and conceptual art, we take on the excess of every-day materials in our daily lives. Students are invited to rethink the value and use of objects and to transform them into works that convey new meanings of representation and beauty. The exhibition, Brian Jungen: Friendship Centre, along with select works currently on display, will inspire a range of directions for materials exploration for relief and free standing works.
This course meets in the Dr. Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School. Participants must be 18 or older. To get the most from this course, we suggest you take Introduction to Sculpture first.
