Silkscreen to music! Join us for a youth-led silk-screening workshop lead by artist Kenji Tokawa. Screen a patch or bag with messages about art and activism in Toronto. Listen to a live performance by internationally acclaimed electronic/down-tempo musicians, LAL.
Kenji Tokawa
Kenji Tokawa was born and raised on Mississaugas of the New Credit territory, now lives and studies in Toronto. He is a writer, t-shirt maker, and grandson who’s work has been published in CultureSHOCK! Queens University Anti-Racist Lit Review. Kenji is also program coordinator of the Toronto Asian Arts Freedom School, co-investigator with the Trans PULSE project, and workshop facilitator with the 519 Trans Access Project. He recently had his poetry featured at Pride Toronto’s 2009 Proud Voices Literary Stage.
LAL
LAL is about music and social change. They are a collective that represent Uganda, Bangladesh, Barbados, India and everything in-between. They are instinctive musicians. Some are activists, some are not, but they respect each others opinions and they love like family. LAL believes in creating an strong independent music movement in Canada.
For 10 years, the AGO’s Youth Council has met weekly at the Gallery to design programming that is relevant and responds to the needs of youth in the Greater Toronto Area.
