Inner Space with Jemini Baptiste

WATCH THIS EPISODE

This month we meet artist, Jemini Baptiste, a Black multi disciplinary artist.

They were curated by Omi Rodney of the AGO Youth Advisory. “Jemini Baptiste’s work implicates themselves in an intricately spun web that represents the chaos of telling one’s own story where the melodrama of family, lineage and memorabilia are put together in service of self-making. Through their artistic media they transport and are transported to another world, somewhere better than here where the art and souls of black people roam the expanse of the planet safely, freely. Through their process, their visions of the world are settled and they arrive at a point of interminable creation – the summation of decades, even centuries, of generational knowledge. Where they are, there is no separation between past, present and future.Their work inspires emotions in me that bring me closer to my own ancestry and the truth of my own self.
