The Beatles and the Toronto Sound

Saturday March, 28, 2026 | 2-3:30 pm
Baillie Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

Join music historian Mike Daley as he unpacks, through song and archive, the relationship and evolution of the Toronto music scene in the 1960s and The Beatles.

The talk will end with a live performance by Daley and his band, who will recreate The Beatles’ very first Toronto concert, held at the Maple Leaf Gardens in September 1964.

Dr. Mike Daley is a Toronto-based guitarist, singer, and popular music historian. A professional musician for over 35 years, he has toured and recorded with Jeff Healey, Classic Albums Live, the Killjoys, Nine Big Dogs, and many more. He is also a longtime member of Fraser/Daley and serves as Assistant Music Director at Church of the Redeemer in Toronto.

Holding a Ph.D. in musicology, Mike has published widely on a variety of musical subjects and is a sought-after lecturer on 20th-century popular music. His well-received six-week courses at Church of the Redeemer and his lecture-concert series, Dr. Mike Daley Presents, regularly attract sellout audiences in Toronto and Richmond Hill.

Mike is currently writing a history of live music in Toronto’s Yorkville coffee house district of the 1950s and 1960s. For more information, visit mikedaleymusic.com.
