Epic Visions: The Prints of David Blackwood

April 6, 2011, 7 pm
Marvin Gelber Print & Drawing Study Centre, Art Gallery of Ontario

Celebrated Canadian printmaker David Blackwood joins Katharine Lochnan, AGO Senior Curator, Prints and Drawings, for a candid discussion about his art and ideas using a selection from his extraordinary gift to the AGO of 242 prints. Blackwood’s epic visual narratives are rooted in the harsh realities and history of Newfoundland, but have universal, mythical and timeless significance. The talk is held in conjunction with the special exhibition Black Ice: David Blackwood Prints of Newfoundland, on view at the AGO from February 5 to May 15, 2011.

Close Encounters is an intimate first-hand experience with treasures from the AGO’s collection of works on paper.
