Intersections: Art and Fashion

April 21, 2010, 7 pm
Marvin Gelber Print & Drawing Study Centre, Art Gallery of Ontario

John Potvin, Assistant Professor in the School of Fine Art and Music, University of Guelph, has lectured and written extensively on fashion, interior design and 'the spaces where material and visual cultures meet'. His latest co-edited volume Fashion, Interior Design and the Contours of Modern Identity attends to these intersections. Dr. Potvin’s talk will be illustrated by a selection of the over 160 etchings and mezzotints by French painter and printmaker, James J. Tissot, gift to the AGO of Allan and Sondra Gotlieb in 1994. In the work of Tissot, fashion and art intersect.

Close Encounters is an intimate first-hand experience with treasures from the AGO’s collection of works on paper.
