Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in the Art Museum: Centering Inuit Knowledge and Community in Exhibition Practices

McCready Lecture on Canadian Art: Heather Igloliorte

Dr. Heather Igloliorte, an Inuk curator and art historian from Nunatsiavut, the Inuit self-governing region of Labrador, discussed the integration of Inuit Quajimajatuqagit (Inuit values and knowledge) into contemporary exhibition practice through the development of her collaborative, community-led work in Nunatsiavut. This presentation centred on Igloliorte’s work with her community to reveal the hidden history of Labrador Inuit art to light through the development of the nationally touring exhibition, SakKijâjuk: Art and Craft from Nunatsiavut.
