Michelangelo Drawings: The Artist Revealed
Michelangelo was one of most admired draftsmen of the Italian Renaissance, yet he was reluctant to allow other artists to see his drawings and jealously guarded access to them. This lecture explores the private and the public sphere of Michelangelo’s activities and how we can gain an understanding of his working methods and development through drawings from the Casa Buonarroti.
Hugo Chapman is curator of Italian drawings at the British Museum and author of Michelangelo Drawings: Closer to the Master.
Learn about the exhibition Michelangelo: Quest for Genius, running October 18, 2014, to January 11, 2015, at the AGO.
