Seika Boye with Natasha Powell: This Living Dancer
AGO Artist-in-Residence Seika Boye shares a lecture-demonstration that reflects on her project This Living Dancer, a self-archiving exercise that questions her life in dance, being a dance artist in the museum, and her own role as a scholar with a practice in archival research. Seika and her co-presenter, Natasha Powell of Holla Jazz, will share selections from the black vernacular social dance lessons that Seika has been taking with Natasha as part of her residency.
The presentation will be followed by a participatory lesson for audience members. A Q&A will conclude the presentation.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to experience the work and teachings of two amazing artists in this singular public presentation.
Seika Boye is a scholar, writer, educator and artist whose practices revolve around dance and movement. She is a Lecturer at the Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance Studies and Director of the Institute for Dance Studies, University of the Toronto, where she teaches practical and lecture courses.
Natasha Powell is a Toronto-based dancer, choreographer, producer, and founding artistic director of Holla Jazz - an arena where all jazz dances, hip hop, and house intersect to reinvigorate the idea of freedom and unity of the dance styles that bring meaning and hope to our communities.
