AGO Live: The National Ballet of Canada

2021
Walker Court, Art Gallery of Ontario

This event has been cancelled.

This program is part of the partner series, AGO Live: Hello From The Other Side where we welcome partners from across the city to use the AGO as a site for their programs in an effort to revitalize the arts in our city.

The uncertainty around COVID 19 sadly forced The National Ballet of Canada to cancel its 2020 Fall Season and perennial favourite, The Nutcracker. The company will now return to the Four Seasons Centre stage in March 2021 to perform Crystal Pite’s Angels Atlas, James Kudelka’s Cinderella and John Neumeier’s A Streetcar Named Desire and will present the world premiere of Swan Lake, directed and staged by Artistic Director Karen Kain in June 2021. Although the dancers will not grace the Four Seasons Centre stage this fall, the company will be unveiling new digital offerings and will explore unique small-scale performing opportunities.

Choreographer Kevin A. Ormsby will be creating a new work for The National Ballet of Canada that will premiere digitally as part of the Spotlight Series in November, 2020. The AGO will present an open rehearsal of this exciting new work offering a rare opportunity to witness the creative process of this acclaimed choreographer and the talented dancers of the National Ballet. This is the AGO’s second collaboration with the National Ballet, following the highly successful commission of Robert Binet’s The Dreamers Ever Leave You.

Before visiting the gallery, you will need to book a timed-entry ticket online. All performances are free with admission, and will follow physical distancing guidelines.

For requests for Verbal Description, American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and/or live captioning for online and onsite programming, please provide three weeks notice in advance of the event date. The AGO will make every effort to provide accommodation for requests made with less than three weeks notice. Please note that automated captioning is available for all online programs. For onsite visits, the AGO offers these supports for an accessible visit. Please contact us to make a request for these or other accessibility accommodations.
