This workshop is inspired by abstract works in the Art Gallery of Ontario's collection. Students will be exposed to motivations and methods in abstract painting. The AGO’s collections, and the forthcoming exhibition, Mitchell/Riopelle: Nothing in Moderation, will frame discussions of history and innovations in structural and compositional ideology, colour theories, the origins of abstraction and contemporary ideas for the painter. A basic knowledge of painting techniques is recommended.
Materials for the first class are provided. Students will be working with acrylic paint and will receive a list of required materials for the following classes.
