From #AGO1st to last

Grab your dancing shoes and get ready to celebrate the last edition of AGO First Thursdays on February 7.

First Thursday April 2017

Time flies when you’re having fun. It may be hard to believe, but Toronto’s biggest art party, AGO First Thursdays, launched over six years ago! In fact, you might have even been there. But as they say, all good things must come to an end. On February 7, after 63 parties, 800 artists and 130,000 party-goers, this chapter in AGO history is drawing to a close to make way for something new – and you’re invited to celebrate and dance the night away with us!

Fittingly, our final First Thursday is a nod to the future. The next generation of curators from OCAD U brings us their best with AGO First Thursdays: We Are Each Other’s MusesFilling the AGO with music, art and more, the night’s program honours the muse in all of us and centres the perspectives and experiences of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and Person of Colour), queer and femme-forward artists.

Walker Court will be transformed by music and performances, and local artists will take over Baillie Court with an Art $ale featuring artworks and wares you can take away. And when you start getting hungry from all that dancing, don’t forget to check out the delicious food and drinks in the AGO’s Night Market.

Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect at AGO First Thursday: We Are Each Other’s Muses on February 7.

As an artist, DJ, cultural producer, TV and online personality, advocate for the empowerment of female artists and First Thursday alumna, the night’s headliner TiKa is a creative powerhouse with a sound to match. Check out her latest music video:

Dayna Danger is a queer, two-spirited, Métis/Saulteaux/Polish visual artist who uses her work to discuss issues of sexuality, power, identity and representation. For the final First Thursday, she’s set to host an advice column-style Q&A. Until then, get to know Dayna in this performance art piece:

Queer (Self) Portraits: Dayna Danger

We’re also looking forward to a performance by Kiera Boult, a meme-making workshop by Fallon Simard and a showcase of the retro, vintage and up-cycled fashion of The Original Smiths.

First Thursday: We Are Each Other’s Muses is sure to be February’s hottest ticket, so get yours today! Tickets are $11 for AGO Members and $13 for the public, and they are available on our website.

It may be the end, but don't worry; the AGO isn't getting out of the party game! An exciting new after-hours event is currently in the works and will be announced soon, so stay tuned for more details.
