Happy birthday to us! Today marks the first anniversary of the AGOinsider. We’ve covered a lot of ground over the past year, sharing the details of exciting exhibitions and programming and delivering breaking news of major AGO announcements. We’ve revealed the secrets of custom cocktails at AGO Bistro and tempted you with holiday gift ideas at shopAGO. We’ve gone behind the scenes and introduced you to AGO staff and volunteers. The unknown genius of Mystical Landscapes and Uniting Gauguin’s paintings for the first time
Part of the beauty of Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, Van Gogh and more, which was the AGO’s biggest hit of 2016 and the number 6 most-visited exhibition in the Gallery’s history, was blending major artist names with lesser-known painters. These articles highlight this range, from showcasing the work of Charles-Marie Dulac to celebrating the groundbreaking reunion of three Paul Gauguin paintings.

Come and knock on our (new) door
A major project for the AGO, the city and the community over the past year was beautifying Grange Park . The AGO also unveiled a new south entrance to the Gallery that provides access to the park and includes a more open library space and room for artwork.
The AGO is reimagining its look
Look:Forward is a major reinstallation of the AGO’s Collection, and it has been happening in Gallery spaces since February (and will continue into 2018). One of many goals of the reinstallation is to showcase more artists of colour and indigenous works.
Ai Weiwei is coming
Iconic Chinese artist Ai Weiwei couldn’t make it to Toronto for Ai Weiwei: According to What? in 2013, so this post about the artist’s recent trip to Toronto was very well received. And, luckily for us, he paid the AGO a visit while he was here!
