Newly married couple at AGO wedding

Amita and Janarthan got engaged last July and, wishing to adhere to the traditional Indian method of wedding date selection (Muhurat), set out to determine their most auspicious wedding date. They soon discovered the luckiest date was in November – only four months away!

Having visited the Gallery many times to view the Collection, they hadn’t considered it as a wedding venue before their planner, Caspar Haydar, suggested it. Luck was with them when the Saturday date they wanted was open, and the couple snapped it up. The couple put their faith in Caspar and AGO wedding specialist Jennifer Prince to pull everything together in an exceptionally short amount of time.

Colour, food and dancing were the couple’s priorities for their big day. Just weeks before the wedding, Amita travelled to India to select her wardrobe, which included a traditional Chaniya Choli for the afternoon ceremony, and a beautiful emerald-green lengha for the evening festivities. They were married in a traditional Hindu ceremony under a vibrant fuschia and orange mandap in Baillie Court, before venturing into the galleries for a session with award-winning photographers from 5ive15ifteen.

One of Amita and Janarthan’s favourite moments of the day was stopping by Walker Court while their large, customized dance floor was being set up. Curious Gallery visitors stopped to watch the process and when they caught sight of the newlyweds, they spontaneously burst into applause!

That large dance floor came in handy that evening, when Amita and Janarthan’s families arrived in Walker Court to celebrate. Amita’s father loves to dance, and he was in good company: Amita’s entire family is known for dominating the dance floor at weddings!

Keeping the guests fuelled was an Indian fusion buffet custom-created by our AGO Chefs. A delicious variety of dishes included kerala fried shrimp with greens, fennel and orange, plus fried okra with coconut curry and sweet potato latke.

“Our guests were wowed,” says Amita, many of them remarking that the experience was “phenomenal”, and the best party they’d ever attended. After the wedding Amita told Jennifer, “The entire day was absolutely stunning and executed wonderfully. Thank you so much.”

The AGO Events Team was thrilled to help the happy loving couple celebrate their special day exactly as they wanted.
