Pride returns to First Thursday!

An advertisement for the AGO First Thursday in June 2018 featuring DJ Andy Butler.

Pride Toronto turns 38 this year, and once again includes an extravaganza of LGBTQ+ performances, parades, parties and panels during the month of June. The AGO is PROUD as ever to be kicking off Pride Month again – with the launch party at our First Thursday on June 7.

This year, Pride Toronto is looking back at the decades of activism in queer history with the theme, Action = Life. Inspired by this theme, AGO First Thursdays’ Bodies in Revolution program features an all-star lineup of artists who use their bodies to make change.

Artist SUN SUN is known for their music, projection works and iconic fashion creations. Clothes designed by SUN SUN are eye-catching and runway-ready for all bodies, resisting categorization between genders and cultures.

What better use of Bodies in Revolution than dance? Queer and trans multiracial dance company ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company will be at First Thursday to spread their style of accessible and empowering movement.

Celebrating the 30th anniversary of AIDS activism in Toronto, and in collaboration with the AGO’s Out of the Vaults series – which showcases works from the AGO Prints and Drawings Collection at every First Thursday – June's event will feature a selection of AIDS ACTION NOW posters.

And headlining the whole party is DJ Andy Butler of Hercules and Love Affair, a dance music project with a rotating list of collaborators that once included Anohni, CocoRosie, Kele Okereke, Juliana Huxtable, Sharon Van Etten and more. Thanks to Butler’s talents in creating infectious dance beats that cross from joy to heartbreak and back, Hercules and Love Affair has gained a worldwide following. And Butler is bringing it here to Toronto on June 7th. Don’t miss it!
