You scream, I scream, we all scream in the AGO

Have you ever had to resist your impulse to scream? In need of a stress reliever but also want to check out some cool art? We’ve got just the workshop for you!
Screaming in the Galleries is, well, exactly what it sounds like. And you get to do it in our latest exhibition, Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters. We spoke to instructor Brendan Jensen to learn more about it.
AGO: Have you ever run a workshop like Screaming the Galleries?
Brendan: Screaming in the Galleries is a new workshop that borrows from some of the same concepts of the Moving and Meditation workshop I currently facilitate in the galleries.
AGO: What can people expect from this course?
Brendan: People can expect to have fun and to release some stress. The workshop aims to be an accessible, light-hearted and a potentially spooky way to be together in the incredible Guillermo Del Toro exhibition. Screaming can be incredibly relaxing!
AGO: How does your yoga practice inform teaching a workshop like this?
Brendan: This workshop is not yoga but definitely borrows from techniques for relaxing and concentration.
AGO: How does being in a gallery space affect or enhance a course or workshop like this?
Brendan: This is a great opportunity to step outside the box of social norms and expressions. I think many people have the fantasy screaming or yelling out in spaces that are perceived to be reserved for quiet reflection. The gallery is a perfect backdrop to release some of that suppressed energy and I believe that the exhibition may even provide some shriek-worthy inspiration.
AGO: Is there anything else you’d like to add or mention?
Brendan: I am very curious to see who comes out for this strange event. I am a big fan of Halloween and I am so excited by the timing of this exhibition and workshop. No one is too young or old to make some noise!
