Your personalized report, sent through email, will identify your art persona, what artworks you spent the longest time with, your preferred colour palette, and more!  So, after you see it and feel it, you can share the art that moves and represents you the most. Plus, learn a thing or two about yourself along the way.

This is the museum snapshot you’ll always want to keep – and that you find may be surprising.

The Art Rate Monitor experience is included with gallery admission. Visit the Art Rate Monitor kiosk by the Welcome Desk to participate. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Art Rate Monitor FAQS

How does the Art Rate Monitor work?

The lanyard and wristband will record your location and heart rate as you move through the museum. Over 70 beacons are located across four floors of the museum, so the Art Rate Monitor can map which artworks changed your heart state.

Science has proven we respond to art in many ways: emotionally, cognitively and physically. Measuring heart rate is a simple and non-intrusive way to record one of the ways we experience art.

At the end of the experience, you will receive an email with a free personalized wrap report, identifying your art persona, what art works you spent the longest time with, your preferred colour palette and more!

How long is the experience?

As long or short as you like! The Art Rate Monitor is a free complement to a regular visit – though the longer you explore, the more you’ll reveal about yourself and great art.

Does it matter in what order I see things?

No. The Art Rate Monitor will respond to artworks across four floors - in the Concourse, on Level 1, Level 2, and Level 4. You can visit for as long as you like, in whatever order you’d like.

Do I get to see my heart rate results?

No. The Art Rate Monitor is not intended as a medical device. At the end of the experience, you will receive an email with a free personalized wrap report, identifying your art persona, what artworks you spent the longest time with, your preferred colour palette, and more!

Will the devices interfere with medical technology?

No. The wristband measures heart rate similar to a smart watch or digital app.

Is this suitable for children?

Yes. Children under 14 must have their parents/guardian consent before signing up for the experience and their guardians must provide contact information and show a piece of Identification to sign out the equipment. Please note that the wristband may be too large for younger children.

Can I do this with a group?

This experience is intended for individuals. Due to limited supplies, this experience is not available for tour groups or school visits.
