Cindy Sherman, Untitled #132

Cindy Sherman: Retrospective

October 1, 1999 - January 2, 2000

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

Cindy Sherman’s riveting portrayals of the body and her unique manipulation of the photographic medium make her one of the most influential artists of her generation. This mid-career retrospective of approximately 150 works includes examples from all her major series, from her early images of provocatively ambiguous “B movie” female characters and magazine centrefolds, to her later works depicting a fascination with horror, humour, pornography, surrealism and the grotesque.

Cindy Sherman: Retrospective has been jointly organized by The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. This exhibition is made possible in part by the generous support of David and Suzanne Saperstein, Genevieve and Ivan Reitman, Jeanne C. Thayer, the Friends of MOCA, and Agnes Gund.
