A Collector's Vision: J.S. McLean and Modern Painting in Canada

May 20 - September 5, 1999

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

This exhibition of approximately 70 paintings is the first in a series exploring the collection of J.S. McLean (1876-1954), a former president of Canada Packers Ltd. and, in his day, one of the country's most avid collectors of Canadian contemporary art. Featuring works by A.Y. Jackson, David Milne, Carl Schaefer, Paraskeva Clark and others, the show will be drawn primarily from the 1969 gift from the J.S. McLean Collection to the Ontario Heritage Foundation (donated to the AGO in 1988) and Canada Packers' 1990 gift of 173 paintings from the McLean Collection.

Generously supported by

The McLean Foundation
