Exhibition Overview

The AGO’s department of Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora is pleased to present Critical Views, a selection of recent acquisitions by contemporary artists. Featuring works by Kimani Beckford, Paul Anthony Smith, Natia Lemay, Jan Wade, Alison Saar, Sandra Brewster, Sahara Longe and Che Lovelace, this installation illustrates their distinct ways of expressing a multiplicity of histories, identities and cultural perspectives from the African diaspora. The range of visual tropes, subjects, and narratives in these works address the layered complexities of Black diasporic life, and the multifaceted experiences of these artists and their communities.
