Jill Crossen-Sargent: Works, 1968–1985

September 25, 2004 - January 2, 2005

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

Jill Crossen-Sargent (b. 1930) worked at a time when recognition was difficult to obtain for female artists. Her first non-representational works of 1968 were austere, immaculate talismans against the Information Age assembled from materials discarded by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They culminated in 1981–1985 with a lustrous series of works in gold, silver and bronze. Eleven magnificent relief constructions by this little-known senior Canadian artist are presented in her first museum exhibition in more than 20 years.
