EXHIBITION OVERVIEW
Heinrich Wölfflin’s Principles of Art History
This exhibition explores the theories of Heinrich Wölfflin (1864-1945). A famous Swiss art historian, Wölfflin advocated the rigorous study of “forms” in art rather than subject matter. His method, which compared “classic” (16th c. Renaissance art) and “baroque” (17th c. art) is still fundamental to the teaching of art history today. This exhibition has been organized in conjunction with the Department of Fine Art, University of Toronto.
