This is My Neighbourhood

May 6 – July 26, 2009

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

Opening Reception: Wednesday May 13, 5-7 pm, Remarks at 5:30 pm

This is My Neighbourhood is an annual visual arts project that rotates to a different community each year. This year, junior level students in the South West 4 Family of Schools participated in the project. This part of Toronto stretches from O’Connor to Lakeshore and from Coxwell to Broadview and contains several diverse, vibrant neighbourhoods.

Professional artists and teachers worked together to structure a rich investigation of the students’ local neighbourhood. The collaborative works on display represent the students’ close observations, research, and personal connections to home and community. A wide range of media, literacy and art making processes were introduced by the artists, allowing the students to tell their stories of their special communities in their own special way.

Their creative efforts have culminated in this exhibition that is presented as a partnership between the Toronto District School Board and the Art Gallery of Ontario with the support of Arts Etobicoke.
