Nightmares of a Genius: Goya's Los Proverbios

July 5 - October 15, 2000

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

The exhibition includes eighteen prints by the Spanish artist, Francisco Goya (1746-1828). Originally completed in 1816 as "Los Disparates (The Follies)" this series is a monument in the history of art. These enigmatic images reflect the civil and social chaos of 19th c. Spain, and provide a disturbing commentary on human nature. Los Proverbios is a recent gift of the Robert Tanenbaum Family Trust.
