Arturo Herrera was born in 1959 in Caracas, Venezuela and came to the United States to study art. Herrera has won acclaim for his collages, drawings and wall paintings characterized by a unique blend of popular culture and modernist abstraction. His imagery shifts from Disney figures to surreal hybrids through a meticulous layering of formal and fantastic relations. Herrera lives in New York City where he is represented by Brent Sikkema gallery. His most recent projects include installations at P.S. 1 and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
