Present Tense: Maria Sheriff

October 29, 2003 - January 11, 2004

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

A new sculpture and video installation by Montreal artist Maria Sheriff poetically finds likeness and incongruity in substance and light. Sheriff began with several steel beams salvaged from a great city fire, traced their twisted lines in neon, and then filmed them. Simultaneously present and projected, this work suggests mutability, doubling and an unlikely phantom spirit in the inanimate.

Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
