Zhang Huan: Ash Paintings and Memory Doors

May 5 - August 19, 2012

EXHIBITION OVERVIEW

Internationally acclaimed Chinese artist Zhang Huan is best known for provocative performances that subjected his own body to challenging tests of endurance. Zhang now uses symbolically charged materials to explore issues around identity, spirituality and history. Both political and highly personal, this exhibition addresses a disjunction between collective memory and official historical record in the post–Cultural Revolution era.
