ACTIVITY

Find art in your own backyard (and inside your home)!

Canadian artist Paul Peel specialized in painting children and the activities they take part in. The young biologist here has taken an interest in a large, brown toad. Peel won a prize at the 1890 Paris Salon, making him one of the first Canadian artists to achieve international recognition in his lifetime. His work is intimate, warm and sentimental, drawn from domestic scenes of everyday life.

Animal spotting/bird watching

Have you spotted any interesting birds or animals outdoors recently?

What kind of local wild animal are you interested in studying? A fox? A hawk?

Draw (or colour) your favourite local animal

  1. If you have access to a printer, print the activity card and colour the line drawing.

  2. If you do not have access to a printer, sketch some flowers you see in your community. Colour them and share them.

  3. Make them as realistic or not as you wish!
