Inuk artist Paulaussie Pootoogook (1927–2006) was born in Igalalik, Nunavut. Hailing from a family of artmakers, he began his career as a printmaker but is often recognized for his skill in carving. Using various materials, Pootoogook exhibits the mastery and skillfullness of carving smooth surfaces into serpentine – a stone commonly found in the Kinngait (Cape Dorset) area. This line drawing represents one of Pootoogook’s sculptures, the figure of Canadian country-and-western singer Tommy Hunter.
