on recto of mount, typewritten label below print: THE YOSHIWARA IN TOKYO./ This section of the city is built within an enclosure having a single entrance, and is under the supervision/ of the municipal government. The streets are wide and well paved, and the houses are larger, costlier and of/ better construction than prevail throughtout the city outside. There are three such districts in Tokyo, the principal/ one having about 150 houses containing 3,000 inmates, and each of the others about half as many. There/ are similar institutions in every Japanese city, aggregating 18,000 houses containing about 25,000 inmates.
