This month we meet artist Blake McLeod, a Métis nonbinary, queer artist living and working in Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 Territory. They were curated by Emily Donville of the AGO Youth Advisory. “Blake is an essential fixture of the Calgary arts & culture scene, using their art practice to communicate to folks who have ever felt “othered” that they are not alone. Through various mediums– illustration, graphic design, photo, video, broadcasting, music and paint – Blake attempts to communicate the core concept of humanity and community, specifically to queer audiences. “I have had the incredible opportunity to witness first-hand their dedication to the community through their work as a radio DJ at CJSW 90.9 FM, and I am delighted to be showcasing their studio space through this project,” says curator Emily Donville.
