Ruth Masuka (she/her) is a student, educator and community organizer, fascinated by the way art functions as a mechanism for peace-building processes, trauma recovery and capacity building. Based in Hamilton, Ontario, a city with a strong working-class tradition and several migrant communities, Ruth is interested in how creativity can act as a catalyst to further agency and autonomy for disenfranchised populations. A firm believer in “nothing about us, without us”, Ruth has served refugee youth, racialized populations, low-income communities and people experiencing housing insecurity using artistic practices as both a form of expression and action. Ruth is also an avid crocheter (find her work at @oddball.commodities on Instagram!) and in her natural element, you’ll likely find her with a camcorder in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other.
