Franklin Carmichael

(1890 Orillia, Ontario – 1945, Toronto, Ontario)

A celebrated watercolourist and pioneering commercial artist, Carmichael was introduced to Lismer, MacDonald, Thomson, and Varley while working as an office clerk for Toronto’s leading design firm, Grip Limited. The only member of the Group to sketch in watercolour, his works have a distinctive decorative quality, noted for their linear quality and vibrant colours.
