1882, Montreal, Quebec – 1974, Kleinberg, Ontario)
The only member of the Group to hail from Quebec, Jackson’s paintings are characterized by simplified forms and rhythmic compositions. In a career that stretched six decades, he served variously as an official war artist, inaugural president of the Beaver Hall Group of Modernist painters, and president of the Canadian Group of Painters. In his later years, he spent much time painting in Southern Alberta and served as artist in residence at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection.
