Theresa Kutasz Christensen

Assistant Curator of Provenance, European Art

Background: Before joining the AGO in 2026, Theresa (Tess) Kutasz Christensen taught provenance research methods and practice for the International Foundation for Art Research (IFAR). She has worked in curatorial and provenance research roles at institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution. Tess served as research assistant for the exhibition Making Her Mark: A History of Women Artists in Europe, 1400-1800. Her specializations are in women’s roles in the historical art market and the history of collecting. She holds a Bachelors in Art History from the University of Puget Sound, a Masters and Doctorate in Art History from the Pennsylvania State University, and a certification in Nazi-Era Provenance Research from the Center for Art Collection Ethics at the University of Denver.
