AGO to present debut museum exhibition by Toronto artist Ranbir Sidhu

Blending Sikh iconography and contemporary art, exhibition of large-scale metal sculptures to open December 11, 2025

TORONTO — This winter, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) presents an exhibition of new monumental sculptures by acclaimed Canadian artist Ranbir Sidhu. Opening December 11, 2025, Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits, will immerse viewers in a futuristic landscape, alive with Sikh iconography. Curated by Julian Cox, AGO Deputy Director and Chief Curator, Sidhu’s strikingly contemporary large-scale works are technically audacious and culturally resonant monuments that meld the past, present, and future into a singular, striking vision.

Working primarily in aluminum and steel, Sidhu fuses opulence with innovation in his use of cutting-edge metalworking techniques, honed over two decades. Drawing equally from ancestral narratives and a sleek, future-forward vision, his sculptures inhabit a space where heritage meets horizon, channeling the singularity of his Sikh consciousness and his admiration for the boldness of post-war abstract sculpture.

For this, his first-ever museum exhibition, Sidhu takes over the Signy Eaton Gallery on Level 2 to present three new monumental sculptures. Seen together, they create a meditative and futuristic landscape.

"Sculpture is not merely shape or form,” says Sidhu. “In metal and light, I search for the unseen—where form meets spirit, and the ordinary becomes a pathway to the infinite."

Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits will open to AGO Members beginning December 11, 2025, to Annual Passholders on December 12, 2025, and to the public beginning December 14, 2025.  Admission is free for all Ontarians under 25, Indigenous Peoples, AGO Members and Annual Passholders. For more details on how to book your tickets or to become a Member or Annual Passholder, visit AGO.ca

Additional details and programming information are to come later this fall.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Born in Maidenhead, England, and raised in Scarborough, Ontario, Ranbir Sidhu transforms stainless steel and marble into sculptural, and installation works that challenge how we perceive material, scale, and space. Sidhu’s practice draws inspiration from the spiritual transcendence of post-war abstraction, and the historical depth of his Sikh heritage. He embraces the creative possibilities of advanced fabrication technologies to produce works that are as conceptually rich as they are visually and technically arresting.

Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits is organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario.
