Is the AGO a registered charity?

Yes, the AGO is a registered charity in Canada. Our Charitable Registration number is 11879 0401 RR0001.

Is my donation tax deductible?

Donations to the AGO greater than $10 annually are eligible for a charitable tax receipt. When you choose to become an AGO Member or purchase tickets to one of our Fundraising Events, the Canada Revenue Agency requires that a deduction be made from your charitable tax receipt, representing the value of benefits received. What does my philanthropic contribution support?

Your support helps enable the Art Gallery of Ontario's ongoing presentation of exhibitions and education programs. 

Where is my donation receipt?

The AGO issues all charitable tax receipts by physical mail. One-time gifts (including those made online at will receive a receipt soon after your donation has been processed. For monthly contributions, consolidated tax receipts are issued once a year by February 28th for the previous calendar year's donations. If you have purchased a ticket to an AGO Fundraising Event, in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, the AGO will issue a tax receipt for the maximum allowable amount following the event date. Should you have questions about your receipt, you never received your receipt in the mail, or it has been misplaced, kindly contact for assistance.

Can I make a tribute donation or a gift in memory of someone?

Yes, we invite you to celebrate a loved one, mark a special occasion, or honour the memory of someone in your thoughts with a gift to the AGO. If making a gift online at, after you have entered your payment information, the next step allows you to select your Donation Recognition Type from a drop-down list before your gift is processed. Select "This gift is in tribute or in memoriam". You can then enter the name of the honouree and provide us with special instructions including a personalized message you would like for us to share with your intended recipient. Please be sure to provide us with their full mailing address so that we can send a note to your honouree or to your recipient. The donation amount will not be specified in the note, unless you instruct us otherwise. Your credit card will be charged once to select "Place Order". You will receive a physical acknowledgement of your gift through the mail, as will your recipient. 

Can I make a donation anonymously?

Yes, on the donation page, under the Donation Recognition Type, select "Anonymously". This ensures that your name will not appear on our website or printed materials. Please note that the AGO will keep a record of your name and information associated with your gift in a secure database for payment processing purposes. The AGO will not share this information and will only use it for the purposes of communicating with you directly.

How else can I make a donation?

While usually offers the fastest way to make your gift, if you have special instructions, or wish to include other information alongside your contribution, you can also make a gift by mail, telephone, gift of shares, or wire transfer.

Gift of Shares

To make a donation of securities to the AGO, simply instruct your financial institution or broker to transfer your gift of securities to the Art Gallery of Ontario. When you make a gift of stocks, bonds, futures, options, or shares in mutual funds, you pay no tax on the capital gains earned. This could provide significant tax savings. Moreover, a charitable tax receipt is issued for the fair market value of the securities on the date they are transferred to the AGO. Kindly contact for a copy of our Gift of Shares form.

Can I leave the AGO a gift in my will?

The AGO is especially grateful to those who consider making a legacy gift. By planning to leave a gift to the AGO in your will, it helps us plan for the future and grow responsibly. It also allows you to leave a lasting impact on the AGO and the community we are a part of. There are many ways to include the AGO in your will, such as gifts tied to your estate, bequests, a charitable remainder trust, and naming the AGO as a beneficiary of your retirement or life insurance plan.
