Volunteering at the Art Gallery of Ontario

YOUTH Opportunities

AGO Summer Art Camp Volunteer

(note: you must be 15 years of age at time of volunteer placement to volunteer! This placement is reserved for high-school aged youth)

We recruit over 100 youth volunteers each summer for our art camp – our most popular youth placement of the year! Summer art camp volunteers are the “best friends” of camp. Your role is to help supervise and support our young campers, and also help prepare art supplies, provide one-one-one art-making assistance, and play games/eat lunch with your group. If you love kids, you’ll love camp! We’re looking for enthusiastic, early-rising youth, who like working in a team, and would enjoy the fast-pace/ crafty atmosphere of a kid’s art camp! All the better if you have babysitting and previous camp experience. Make new friendships, learn new skills, and join us this summer!

Required Availability: This is a two- week placement (70 hours). Volunteers must be available for one full, two-week session of camp (Monday – Friday, 8:15am – 4:15pm). Camp sessions run throughout July and August, and volunteers can choose their session (more details on form). Volunteers receive free admission to the AGO (anytime!), tickets for friends and family to visit, and free and discounted admission/deals to museums/galleries and cultural attractions all across Toronto!

Application Deadline: Friday June 22, 2018

ADULT Opportunities

Evening/Weekend Gallery Guides

We’re looking for knowledgable and welcoming volunteers to join our Evening & Weekend Gallery Guide program. Gallery Guides roam as “ask me” guides across the galleries, to engage with visitors, promote close-looking, critical thinking and conversation. Our guides offer short, scheduled, pop-up art talks, as well as more structured tours. Our Gallery Guides are not given tour scripts, but instead have the freedom and flexibility to develop content that interests them. We find volunteers who enjoy this role most have a formal background in art, or a strong interest and are willing to self-study; ongoing exhibition content and methodology training is provided.

Required Availability: : This volunteer placement requires bi-weekly availability (i.e. you will be scheduled every two weeks). You’ll be able to choose from a (3.5 hour) Friday evening / Saturday or Sunday, morning or afternoon shift. A 2-3 month training period is observed before new guides join the regular program. We ask for a one-year commitment.

Application Deadline: Friday June 22, 2018

Note: we update this site as volunteer positions become available; please check back regularly.
