Love at the AGO

What happens when art and love collide? Newlyweds Tiffany and Grace gave us a peek into their beautiful, intimate wedding ceremony at the AGO this past summer.

In 2004, Tiffany and Grace met in the comments section of their favourite blog. This past summer, after 15 years of romance, they tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with their family and friends at the AGO.

The road to their dream wedding began in 2016 during a picturesque trip to Barcelona, where Tiffany got down on one knee and proposed to a stunned and blushing Grace in a secluded grove of trees on a hill overlooking the city. Hoping to give Tiffany the same romantic experience, Grace proposed to Tiffany on a trip to London.

Once engaged, the only “big question” left to be answered was where to host their dream wedding. With a small guest list, Tiffany and Grace were looking for the perfect place to bring together their loved ones that would reflect their love of modern architecture and warm wood tones.

With the help of their wedding planner and the AGO’s Event Team, the happy couple crafted the perfect, intimate ceremony in Walker Court, and reception, dance and karaoke in Galleria Italia. But even in such large dramatic spaces, it was the small details that made their day so special – like the hand-painted watercolour portraits of their guests that they used in place of seating charts and name cards.

As foodies who love to travel, Tiffany and Grace also wanted a venue that could create an imaginative and flavourful menu. Together with AGO’s Executive Chef Renée Bellefeuille, they created a menu inspired by their engagement in Barcelona with Spanish-style tapas.

Amid all the festivities, vows, singing and dancing, Tiffany and Grace said their favourite parts of the day were the quiet moments, alone together wandering through the serene galleries at the AGO. They shared a tip for anyone thinking about getting married at the AGO – scout out your favourite works in advance and leave lots of time to wander taking photos with the art.
