UK-based artist Jo Longhurst, winner of The Grange Prize 2012, was in residence at the AGO’s Anne Lind Artist-in-Residence studio from November 4 through December 15, 2012. Jo will be working with local elite gymnasts on two works that will extend her series Other Spaces, and conducting research to inform new avenues in her practice.

About the Artist

Jo Longhurst first came to prominence with The Refusal, a body of work for which she spent a number of years photographing Whippets, British show dogs bred to ideal standards. This captivating examination of physical perfection led to her most recent series, Other Spaces, which explores the physical and emotional experiences of elite gymnasts. With both series, Jo uses photography to examine how ideas of perfection shape personal and national identities, and social and political systems.

Jo’s work was on view in The Grange Prize 2012 Exhibition in Galleries 130, 131, and 132 (Level 1) until January 6, 2013!
